In 1310 when Bridget was about seven years old, she began having visions that would continue throughout her life. In 1316 she married a Swedish nobleman, who was deeply religious like herself. One of their daughters became St. Catherine of Sweden.
When Bridget became a widow in 1344, she had a vision of her late husband. He told her that she could help shorten his purgatory by having Masses said and by giving alms to the poor. Reading this story can encourage us to follow in the footsteps of St. Bridget of Sweden, who humbly followed God's promptings and was always generous to those in need.
